Yeast infection symptoms can help you determine whether or not you have systemic candidiasis or not, however there are a LOT of possible symptoms in relation to a vaginal yeast infection. This is typical of many illnesses and infections as symptoms overlap with other conditions. In respect to a yeast infection, generally if your infection is fairly advanced, you may find that you have other diseases/illnesses as a result of the spread of Candidiasis.

A yeast infection usually starts out life as an intestinal infection which then starts spreading and causing havoc in the rest of the body. If a yeast infection is left untreated it can cause other illnesses/diseases and really do a number on your health.

Yeast infections and the Candida fungus (Candida Albicans), are thus, linked to many different illnesses and diseases including:

Digestive disorders, asthma, Chrons disease, high cholesterol, stress as well as nutrient deficiencies.

These are only a few of the conditions it has been linked to and isn’t surprising when you learn about exactly what an untreated yeast infection can lead to.

As well as disease, some symptoms of vaginal yeast infection (or yeast infections in general) can be more general such as lethargy and fatigue. As Candida feeds on sugar in the blood, this sugar can therefore not be passed onto cells which desperately leave it. As a result you feel tired.

This is a very general symptom though and alone does not constitute having a yeast infection but is just an example of a symptom you may have never associated with yeast infection and vulvitis for that matter before.

Below is a list of common symptoms of yeast infections as well as symptoms specifically associated with vaginal yeast infections.

Generally most people looking for information on yeast infections are look for information on vaginal problems as this seems to be the most known issue.  Most people would be surprised to learn that a yeast infection isn’t just about the vagina!

The most common symptoms of yeast infection are:

As yeast infection problems are usually associated with vaginal yeast infections, it is often overlooked that symptoms of a yeast problem include digestive issues, however these are among the most common symptoms when it comes to this type of problem.

If you suffer from indigestion and bloating all the time and take antacids for relief, you may want to consult with your Doctor about the possibility of a yeast infection.

As well as symptoms from the list above, you may also experience cravings for high carbohydrate foods as your cells are starved of sugar (as a result of the Yeast consuming it all) and the Yeast demanding to be fed!

From looking at the list above, you may be confused whether or not you have a yeast infection because the symptoms can be symptoms of other illnesses or diseases in their own right. Many people may not realise a heavy painful period may be as a result of a problem with yeast and not just something you have to live with.

Vaginal Yeast Infection Symptoms

Generally when we think about yeast infections we often associate it as a woman’s issue and one to do with the vagina. Below are symptoms often associated with a vaginal yeast infection:

  • Irritation, burning and redness of the Vagina
  • Itching- this is a major candida symptom and can be one of the most frustrating.
  • Odor – Any unusual smell from your vagina/penis can be an indication of something unbalanced.
  • Vaginal sensitivity – this may be most obvious during intercourse or urination.

Women often take oral contraceptives/birth control pills in order to sort out an irregular period or heavy painful periods. This often works but will not solve the problem of the yeast infection. All it does is take away one of the symptoms.
Many women also worry that they can pass on a yeast infection like a sexually transmitted disease. Unfortunately it is often the case that a yeast infection can be transmitted, but men often do not have any symptoms making it quite dangerous. If you have had unprotected sex, it may be in the best interests of your partner to let them know you have been treated for a yeast infection and think they should too as a precaution. Also, it is worth mentioning that if you don’t tell them and you have unprotected sex with them again you could get re-infected!

There are many treatments used to treat candidiasis, but if you are unsure whether a yeast infection is your issue, it is best to consult with your Doctor first. They can then make sure that a yeast infection is what you need to be treated for.
To help with recovery from this type of problem it is best to improve the function of your immune system by eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in fat.
